Style Advice of the Week: Fall in the South

Southern Fall Style on Campus

SB1

Shonna Bairos, a senior marketing major at Troy University in Troy, Alabama, walks to class wearing a comfortable, yet stylish ensemble.

In the South, what to wear during the fall is a constant struggle. One day, you are wearing shorts and the next day, you are wearing jeans and a flannel.

In fact, “Is it cold outside?” has become a daily question asked between my roommate and I before we go to class in the morning. The weather is always too hot for jeans and/or a coat, but too cold for short sleeves and/or sandals.

However, mixing warm and cold weather pieces can easily solve the dilemma of dressing for constantly changing weather. On the way to class, I spotted this Fashionista portraying the perfect balance of texture and variety for the indecisive Alabama weather.

Wearing a long American Eagle Burgundy cardigan and high-wasted American Eagle denim shorts, Shonna Bairos, a marketing major at Troy University in Troy, Alabama, takes a comfortable approach to mixing and matching pieces in the Fall.

A key piece to any fall outfit is a pair of boots. Bairos is sporting a pair of chocolate brown motorcycle boots, which adds an edgy side to a mostly feminine outfit. Underneath her boots is a pair of boot socks from, unbelievably, from Walmart!

The feminine take on the outfit includes the stylish turquoise tank Bairos is wearing, adorned with ruffles. The silk tank looks chic against the burgundy cardigan, tucked into her high-wasted shorts.

Bairos completes her perfectly layered outfit with a braided brown belt and floral sunglasses from Forever 21. Not only does she look super stylish, but also she is comfortably dressed for walking back-and-forth on campus.

The right combination of texture, color and variety allows this Bairos’ semi-fall ensemble come together flawlessly.  To balance the weather in the South, experiment with dark and bright colors to create a focal point to what would be a rather plain outfit.

One Simple Change: Add a patterned scarf to this look for a simple, yet stylish approach to a warmer, fall look.

xoxo,

The Blonde Ensemble
